Juvenile Robins and Blue Sky

We have seen a few adult Robins hanging around our backyard tree.  Gia even saw a Magpie with a blue egg shell fly out of the same tree.  But, I was surprised to see the young robins appear.  This was the first baby to leave the nest.  George Coffee named him Harold.
This was number 2 - I named him Alfalfa, because of the curl.
And this was baby number 3.  By day 3 of medium sized birds screeching and pooping all over my hot tub cover, patio and stair railings the only thing I wanted to say to this bird was "Good-bye"!  It was interesting to learn about Robins and their life cycles.
This is the evening light looking northeast.
And the other end of the rainbow looking southeast.  I laughed that we needed to dig up the septic tank and find the gold.
A little later in the evening this was our wonderful sunset.  Looking West, of course!

Ordinary week

So my teeth have been giving me some trouble this spring.  First I had to have 3 root canals in April just after we got home from Arizona.  Two of the teeth already had ancient root canals that the dentist said failed, the third just happened to be hanging out with a bad tooth and got bad too.  The process wasn't all that rough except we had to drive to Kennewick each time.  That's a long drive!  After all that work  - on Tuesday I bit into a sandwich and the whole crown of my new root canal tooth and the filling next door fell out of my mouth.  I called the dentist and we drove down to Yakima.  The dentist fixed the one tooth that the filling fell out of and now I have to go in this week and have the recently repaired root canal tooth pulled.  Grrrr, after years of nothing but cleanings I am sure using my insurance benefits this spring.  While we were in Yakima we did some shopping and sightseeing.  The first picture I took was of this beautiful tree. Okay, so that is a weird sign I agree.... but, the Petunia Tree is so super beautiful I had to snap a picture while we waited for the light to change.  The tree is made up of individual flower pots.  I can't imagine trying to water all these pots and not missing one and the tree would have a giant bare spot.  The sign was actually one of those flip around, sideways, upside down get your attention signs.
Lunch was at the Black Angus in Yakima - I had the chicken grilled salad.  It was amazing, I will try and duplicate this salad if it is ever summer in Ellensburg.  The wind has howled for the past two weeks.
Use your imagination for this shot.  About halfway down on the right side of the tree is a dark spot - in that dark spot was a Bald Eagle nest.  When we drove by we could see the two baby eaglets hopping around and the Momma and Daddy hanging out near by.  It was so cool I just had to share the story.
Bruce finally finished carving his first cowboy boot that he started in Apache Junction.
I absolutely love it!  It looks so authentic.  Great job carving Bruce!
On Friday Bruce took a trip to the gold claim.  He came back with an empty gold pan but found this really cool elk antler.  For some reason the horn smells really bad - not sure why.  We'll give it a few weeks in the garage before adding it to our decor.
While Bruce was gold panning I started to clean.  When I say clean I mean really clean.  I started with the upstairs library/sewing/craft/junk/guest/catch-all room.  I cleaned and sorted and cleaned some more.  It's been years!  This display is on top of the roll top desk - Native American basket handmade by Hazel Pete of Chehalis.  I have the original sale tag, her business card and obituary in the basket.  We bought this from her in Toppenish at an Native American art show.  The brown rock is a Native American fishing weight, you can see the indent around the middle that was tied to the net.  The glass ball is a Japanese fishing float.  The elk teeth and the grinding stone add to the display.  The old stagecoach and truck are things found along the tracks.  And the wooden bowl in the background was Bruce's high school shop project!
Bruce has been collecting books for years. The books drive me crazy!  I spent hours sorting the books and trying to categorize them.  I found quite a few duplicates so the space isn't as crowded.  Bruce is really happy to finally see some order for his library.
This is a selfie....yep that's me in the reflection of the TV.  I changed out the old TV stand into a blanket cupboard for upstairs sleeping.  I sort of like the idea of having the blankets tucked into the cupboard.  All of the books on these shelves are for kids.  Some old Roy Rodgers and some classics.
This is my fabric stash.  I have all the fabrics sorted and folded.  My on-going projects are in the tubs.
My sewing corner.  I tried to re-arrange this area several different ways without success.  Sometimes the original way is the best.
Bruce's suggestion for the room is some kind of a bulletin board for the wall above my serger.  Good idea!  For now the pictures are hung with painters tape.
I bought more cubby boxes for my cubby shelves.
I cleaned out each container and labeled it.  One of the boxes had paper in it from Kimmie's high school graduation.  Yes, it was time to throw some stuff out.  Or at least get it into some kind of order so we can find it!  I couldn't find my hole punch to hang the labels so I used the sewing machine.
I even sorted the button box!  I still have lots of drawers so I may just sort them down more.
Bruce has his Native American artifacts and a book collection and I have my sewing thread collection.  This box is from an old trundle sewing machine cabinet and I filled it with wooden spools of thread.
This is a view of the upstairs room from the doorway.  Lots of work but so rewarding.

Border Posting - Porthill or Bust!

While we were in the area we headed up to Porthill, Idaho.  Tracy and Wes will be moving their family to Porthill later this month.  This is the school that the girls will be attending in the fall.  It is small but super clean with a great soccer field and playground.  The school shows signs of obvious community pride I'm excited to hear Sophie, Ceci and Gia's first impressions.
This is the house the Roemers will be calling home in Idaho.  We peeked through the windows and saw beautiful hardwood floors and nicely painted walls.  I'm sure Tracy will make it a home within days of moving in!
Bruce checked out the amazing poppy plants.  Poppi likes Poppy's!
Look, an outdoor clothesline!  I love it!  By the way, on the other side of the back fence is Canada.
We stopped at the port and used the sani-can.  Fresh and clean!
We could see shopping across the road.  Still in the states.
Loved the name of this bar! Big Daddy's Bar & Grill.
Fishing lake nearby.
The Canadian port of entry it is at Rykerts, BC.  Very interested to see what the closest Canadian town has to offer.
Cool road sign.  I think that was the name of one of the curators at the Farm Chicks show.
The actual area of Porthill is magnificent.  I have honestly never seen anything like it.  The valley is surrounded by snow capped mountains.  This is a picture of the hops crop.
A reminder that I wasn't in Washington anymore.  Porthill is pretty darn close to Spokane.
Another view of the fertile valley.  We saw so much agriculture.  Just gorgeous!
This picture is for Pat - Idaho Bus Barn?  Just kidding!
We did see one elk behind this fence -- just loved the sign.  Apparently you can raise elk in Idaho.
I feel personally responsible for the collapse of Coldwater Creek.  I was one of their best shoppers while I was working and haven't shopped at their store since.  This is their flagship store in Sandpoint, Idaho.   Their going out of business sale is happening at this time.  So sad when a good retailer runs into troubles.  I could always count on quality professional clothing at a great price from Coldwater Creek.  We had lunch at the Kooteni River Brewery in Sandpoint so we still have a stopping place.
Patriotism is alive and well in Sandpoint!

Let's get this PARTY started!!!

After the girls arrived home from the Farm Chicks show Linda guided the kids with the setup for the party.  Everyone had a job to do.  Emma and Olivia placed stickers on the gift paint pails.
Marcus filled the pails with treats and paints.  Tucker just guarded the party with his stick.
"Hey Nana, I don't think I have enough paint sets..."
The wind whipped up all of the decorations  just before the cakes came outside.  Lucky for everyone it was the last wind gust of the afternoon.  The weather was perfect!
Olivia and Emma ready for their guests.
Twins require two cakes so Mom carried out one,
and Poppi carried out the other.  Olivia is watching to make sure her creation doesn't slide off the cake stand.
The 8 year old twins with their cakes, where does the time go?
The theme of the party was art - each child received an apron, a canvas and a painters palette.  Tons of brushes of all sizes and bright colored paint were available to create their masterpiece.
Marcus started with a mountain.  I saw some beautiful paintings completed.
Lining up to watch the cake cutting.

What a great day!  Besides the painting there was also a great taco bar, whiffle ball and lots of running going on.  By bedtime Olivia, Emma and Marcus were all played out.  I'm sure they slept like rocks!
The Oergel 5 on the porch!
I decided I needed a timer picture before we left. Oops, Marcus was shooting the water canon when the timer went off!
Good thing we had another chance!  Such a great weekend.  Thanks for everything Tracie and Marc!  We are so lucky to be able to enjoy our grandchildren's special days.
